Started an economic development plan, "Road to the Future - 495," aimed at improving and encouraging economic growth from Amesbury to Rayham. The program will include a Regional Transit Development study, highway and infrastructure improvements, and a central Ombudsman's office to handle development questions in the area.
$16 million in block grants for more than 40 communities across the state for housing and economic development and investment.
Gov. Jane Swift announced an additional $220 million to support local roads and bridges throughout the state.
Gov. Swift filed legislation in April to cut the unemployment insurance contribution rate for 2002.

Michigan's Transportation Economic Development Fund will spend $20.8 million for road improvements for new and expanded manufacturing facilities.
Gov. John Engler signed an executive order launching a new technology initiative. The program creates a Dept. of Information Technology for government services and management of technology investments.
The Gov. is pushing for a fee increase for filing worker's compensation claims.

Tax Relief bill, which contains $843 million in net property tax relief, with 10 percent for commercial/industrial property.
Minnesotans will receive a check for the $91 million in state surplus; by law the state will return the sales tax rebate.
Legislature passed the $10 million Biomedical Innovation and Commercial-ization Initiative. Bill was pushed by Minnesota Department of Trade to bridge academic research and the commercialization of new technologies.

Repeal of the 7 percent Warehouse Tax, which will be an asset to distribution warehouse companies in Mississippi.
The 16-acre (6.4-hectare) container terminal located at the state port in Gulfport is nearing completion. The project costs $14 million and will act as a parking lot for shipping companies.
Two telecom firms have formed a venture capital fund, GS Ventures LLC, to aid start-up technology companies in Mississippi and the Southeast.

Created the Missouri Mathematics Academy to promote the best practices in curriculum for teachers in order to make Missouri students the best in nation.
$21.5 million of the national tobacco settlement will go to life science research. Funds will support clinical research and development in the life sciences.
Missouri Advanced Manufacturing Plan - a roundtable to combat the loss of 25,000 manufacturing jobs in the state.
