One thing all business leaders agree on in the Greater Kansas City region is the value of the new single terminal at Kansas City International Airport, which opened in February 2023.

It’s happening again. The Ross-and-Rachel relationship between Missouri and Kansas in the Kansas City area could be in for a cooling-off period soon as a new measure from Kansas legislators proposes to back potential new stadiums for the NFL’s Kansas City Chiefs and MLB’s Kansas City Royals if they move over to the Kansas side of the bistate metro area.

The measure approved yesterday uses STAR bonds, just as the state has done in the past. For background on Kansas bonding and the historic rivalry, read our May 2010 story, “Keep the Ball Moving” and our November 2017 incentives analysis, “Which Side Are You On?

The world already knows about the Fortune 500, whose 2024 edition was released earlier this month topped by Walmart for the 12th year in a row, followed by Amazon, Apple, UnitedHealth Group and Berkshire Hathaway. As you’d expect, Fortune’s full lists of all 500, as well as the Fortune Global 500 and others, are password-protected. But one new 500 is not … at least not yet: The new Fortune Southeast Asia 500 debuted two days ago “right as global business is starting to pay closer attention to the region,” the publication says. “Southeast Asian economies are benefiting from supply chain diversification as rapid domestic development builds the next wave of global middle-class consumers.”

As our friends at Tractus explore in a forthcoming piece in the July issue of Selection, the Asia Pacific, beyond being a new diversification destination for formerly China-heavy corporate investors, is producing a bevy of prosperous enterprises looking to do their own investing around the world … including in North America.

On June 6, Ford Motor Company kicked off the grand reopening of the Michigan Central Station with a live concert, featuring elite Detroit-born artists such as Eminem (pictured), Jack White and Trick Trick, among others. This spectacle marked the start of a 10-day immersive exhibit named Michigan Central OPEN, as the public explores the results of a six-year renovation endeavor conducted by Ford. The former train station was abandoned in 1988 but after being brought back to life, will now serve as an innovation center. The site consists of 640,000 sq. ft., and Ford hopes to have 2,500 employees working in the Michigan Central district by 2028.

The restored Michigan Central Station also holds its place as a staple in the community, and Ford showed its dedication to the city of Detroit by reserving space for both local business opportunities and youth programming, as well as a public park in a former rail yard.

Site Selection’s Ron Starner examined the renovation project in July 2018, and Adam Bruns published an update in January 2021.
