Alltech has been headquartered in Lexington, Kentucky, since 1980.

Last week Kentucky-based global animal feed and nutrition company Alltech released the 13th annual edition of its global Agri-Food Outlook report, which includes data from 142 countries and more than 27,000 feed mills. Among its findings: The top feed-producing countries are far and away No. 1 China and No. 2 the United States, followed by Brazil, India. Together, those four countries account for nearly half of the world’s feed production. Most sectors saw decreases, with the only increases coming in poultry feed and pet feed production.

Site Selection in 2018 took Alltech’s report as the basis for “Where the Domesticated Things Are,” an in-depth look at which locations are feeding the world and a conversation with Alltech COO and Executive Vice President Mike Castle about the company’s own location portfolio. 2011 marked the first time Site Selection talked with Alltech leadership (in this case its director of global manufacturing) about the company’s locations and its wide variety of business and philanthropic endeavors.

The village, home to fewer than 400 residents at last official count, is known for Dunvegan Castle & Gardens, the ancestral seat of the Clan MacLeod dating back to the 13th century.
