FROM THE ARCHIVES

Tom Loewald, CEO, Cambrex

New Jersey-based contract development and manufacturing organization Cambrex announced last week that it is nearing the completion of a five-year, $100-million-dollar investment strategy one year ahead of schedule. “The project, which adds more than 150,000 square feet of capacity and capability expansions across 70% of its North American and European drug development and manufacturing network, will be completed by the end of 2024,” the company stated.

“In addition to manufacturing capacity, we invested in specialized technologies to accelerate the development of highly potent APIs and complex synthetic candidates,” said Cambrex CEO Tom Loewald. “I’m thrilled to announce that these capabilities and capacity will be available to the market well ahead of schedule, showcasing the efforts of our talented site operations and engineering teams.”

In North America, the strategy has included investments in Charles City, Iowa; High Point, North Carolina; Longmont, Colorado; and Waltham, Massachusetts. European projects have occurred in Milan, Italy, and Liege, Belgium. This year the company will add a new quality control lab in Charles City and commission two new production lines in Karlskoga, Sweden. Read our March 2022 interview with Loewald about the company’s growth strategy and the reasons behind it.
